History:
George W. Church Sr. founded Church’s Chicken on April 17, 1952. “Church’s Fried Chicken To Go” was the name of the chain. It opened in downtown San Antonio (Texas), just across from Alamo. The headquarters of the company are located in Sandy Springs, Georgia. Church’s has over 1700 locations across the United States. International locations are also available at Church’s. These include Bulgaria, Canada and Egypt.
The restaurant initially sold chicken. The chain added jalapenos and fries to its menu in 1955. After his father’s death, George W. (Bill) Church, Jr., took over the company. Church’s owned over 100 restaurants across seven states by the 1960s. Soon, the chain was a publicly-held company. The national headquarters complex was opened in San Antonio (Texas). Church’s was a member of the New York Stock Exchange by the 1970s. In the 1970s, Phoenix was also home to the 1000 th restaurant. Vancouver, Canada was the first location of the restaurant’s franchise outside of the United States.
